page
The new S.I. Models, Weeks Solution is a 33 percent scale model of the full size Weeks Solution as built by Kermitt Weeks. The Solution was one of the first Pitts Style biplanes to utilize the Lycon IO540, 6 cylinder engine. The model was completed and test flown on June 11th, 1999 and made its first public debut at the Biplane Over Pennsylvania on June 27th, 1999. It weighed in at 19.25lbs and was powered by a Zenoah G62 and a Bolly 21-12 3 blade carbon fiber prop. The aircraft has excellent flight characteristics with a very gentle landing speed.
Available for the 33% S.I. Models Weeks Solution are a full set of plans with pattern drawing, assembled cabane structure, landing gear, canopy, construction CD, and the all new SHORT KIT with fuselage sides, wing ribs, and any other part that would have to be cut from the pattern sheet . PLANS

Now for some construction photos:
Fuselage

Fuselage construction is balsa, lite-ply and aircraft plywood. The tail surfaces are 3/8" balsa....very light and strong. Lightening holes were utilized where ever they would not effect the integrity of the airframe.

Fuselage ready for covering, sheeting is balsa. Cabanes are simple to make with a soldering iron and Stay Brite silver solder. The wing saddle is built up using the inner fuselage side and fuselage sheeting, then 1/64 plywood is used for the saddle, very light and strong.
Wing

The wings are standard construction of bass wood main spars and hard balsa rear spars, ribs are 3/32" balsa along with 3/32" leading and trailing edge sheeting. Center section work compromises of balsa blocking capturing the spars. Center section reinforcing cloth is not needed if blocking is installed properly.
Cowl

The prototype has a balsa wood cowl (actually I prefer wood cowls...more work), it looks difficult although it is very simple to make. The cowl can be completed in two evenings and be ready to cover. It could be covered with the same covering as the fuselage or glassed with 3/4oz. cloth and painted.
Finishing touches

Bolly 21-12 carbon fiber prop with a Dave Brown 4" spun aluminum spinner. A little covering and tail bracing won't hurt anyone, 4 servos are used in the tail, one servo for each elevator half and 2 servos for rudder control.
Test flight day

All my test flying is done without trim and paint work, this is a tradition for me. Why waste the time on all these items if your project is going to fail !!. The first taxi out and the first take off. On a smooth cut grass runway roll out under full power is approx. 15', now that power to weight ratio !!, along with the great 23012 airfoil.
The Crew

3 prototypes were built, one for my self, one for Dick Parisette, and one for Tom Murphy, I would like to thank these 3 guys for putting up with all the aggravation during construction. I would also like to thank Mile Reed and Frank Healy for putting up with all my questions.
