Field Rules

 

Purpose

The objective of these rules is to extend the privilege of enjoying the R/C hobby to all members and authorized guests, with emphasis on safety and control. Nothing herein should overrule common sense and courtesy.

General Rules

1. All flyers must present a valid AMA card upon request.

2. Use of the field is restricted to paid in full club members and their guests.

3. Club members are responsible for the conduct of their guests.

4. Flying hours- All aircraft:

                State Park- 8:00 AM till dark daily.

                Clarks Summit- 10:00 AM till dark daily.

5. Alcoholic beverages or drugs are not to be consumed prior to flying and are not permitted at the field.

6. Smoking is not permitted in the pit area or on the flying field. (POST)

7. Members are responsible for keeping the flying sites clean. Anything you bring to the field shall be removed when you depart.

8. Pets shall be confined to the spectator area and shall be secured at all times. (POST)

9. All members shall act in a sportsman like manner. This included language, courtesy, consideration and presenting a positive image.

10. All R/C aircraft, fixed and rotary wing, are welcome. Exception: Turbo jet engines, Ducted fan models and at the Clarks Summit field planes in excess of ----- lbs.

11. All transmitters should carry red aircraft frequency ID flags.

12. All transmitters shall meet AMA requirements.

13. Anyone operating a transmitter without possession of the correct frequency control pin and causing the crash of  another pilot’s aircraft on the same frequency who is in possession of the correct frequency pin, is liable for all damages and injuries resulting from such crash. The parties involved should determine the monetary value of damage to models. If satisfactory assessment cannot be reached in this manner, all parties agree to be bound by an evaluation made by the Executive Board.

14. Any accident involving personal injury or property damage other than models shall be immediately reported to an Executive Board member.

15. All internal combustion engines shall be equipped with a muffler.

16. An aircraft shall not exceed a sound level of 90 db. Measurements are taken according to AMA standards. 

17. New, modified or repaired aircraft shall be ranged checked before flight.

18. Beginner’s aircraft shall be pre-flight checked for air-worthiness by Tech committee member.

19. The Safety Committee has the authority and responsibility to enforce these rules. 

Safety Rules

1. Observe all rules regarding operation of model aircraft as stated in the AMA safety code. (POST)

2. The pit area is restricted to AMA members only. Spectators are to remain in designated areas. (POST)

Exception: A club member accompanies guest.

3. Upon arrival at the field, all transmitters shall be placed in the impound area and shall reside there when not in use. (POST)

4. No transmitter shall be removed from the impound area unless the appropriate frequency pin (clip) is attached to the antenna. Pin possession is limited to 15 minutes if others are waiting.

 5. No cell phones are permitted in the pit area or on the flight line.

6. No engine shall be started in the pits.

7. When engines are being started or run-up the aircraft shall be in the start/run-up area. The plane shall be pointed at the runway. Restarts, are not permitted on the flight line or on the runway, only the start/run-up area.  The start/run-up area is a zone beginning 10 ft. behind the flight line running to the forward area of the pits.

8. Tail restraints shall be used for engine start up or full throttle run up.

9. When engines are run-up to full throttle, operators are responsible kept them selves and all other persons out of the arc of the propeller.

10. Do not aim prop wash at other modelers or their models.

11. Taxiing a model through the pit area is prohibited.

12. Flying shall be done from the pilot stations. One flyer, one spotter and one trainer/coach are permitted per station. Exception: Zagi combat. Non flying are not permitted on the flight line or the runway.

13. Hand launching is permitted only from the pilot stations or runway. Positively NO hand launches from the pits.

14. All flying must take place in front of the line formed by the near edge of the runway extended to infinity in both directions. There shall be no flying over the pits, spectator areas, parking lots, power lines, highways or lakes.

15. Announce LOUDLY your intent to: Hand Launch; Land; Low Pass; Take Off; Taxi onto Runway; Touch & Go; Walk Across Flight Line; Walk Onto Runway (launch/retrieve aircraft etc.).

16. Announce LOUDLY several times (shout) “Dead Stick” when the engine quits in flight or “Emergency” and what the problem is, if the model malfunctions in flight.

17. No more than three aircraft shall be in the air at one time. Ex: two liquid fuel, one electric. Exceptions: At the discretion of a club or field officer the field may be closed for, dog fights, flight demonstrations, racing, special events, training or Zagi combat. The club or field officer shall determine the number of aircraft to fly.

18. Flying shall be in accord with a declared pattern when other aircraft are in the air, to be agreed upon by all pilots on the flight line, or declared by the Field Officer. Right of way shall be given to slower aircraft in this pattern.

19. Landing aircraft shall have access to the runway with the following priority:

1.        Emergency landing

2.        Dead stick landing

3.        Sailplanes/Electrics

4.        All others

20. A flyer shall not willfully and/or deliberately fly their aircraft in a dangerous, careless or reckless manner.

21. It is recommended that no person attempt to start an engine or fly a model while alone at the flying field. Exception: Electric models.

22. Low fly-pasts are not permitted closer so the pilots’ station than the center of the runway.

23. No model shall be flown above an altitude of 400 ft. 

24. No club member shall attempt to fly a model without being accompanied by an instructor unless they have reached the minimum “solo” proficiency level. No club member at the “solo” proficiency level shall fly alone without being accompanied by a club member at the “basic” proficiency level.

25. The Safety Committee has the authority and responsibility to enforce these rules.
